About the Longevity Project

  • On behalf of International Gas Transportation Company Limited (IGTC), the Longevity Project is being carried out to refurbish and upgrade the LNG carriers' hulls and onboard facilities to ensure that they can continue to operate safely well into the future. This work is being done in consultation with Northwest Shelf Shipping Service Company (NWSSSC).
  • Yokogawa's role: The replacement of the integrated control systems (IAS) for cargo and machinery operations, including boiler control. This encompasses engineering, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning services for the CENTUM® VP Integrated Production Control System.
  • Project scope: IGTC plans to renovate a total of six LNG carriers in its fleet.

About the LNG Carriers

  1. Northwest Sanderling (Longevity Project work completed)
In 2008, Yokogawa received the order for the replacement of the IAS that monitors and controls this LNG carrier's cargo and machinery (boiler, electric power, and gas compressor) operations. Yokogawa began installation in June 2009 and completed all work, including functional testing, in just 75 days. For further information, please see our initial press release on the
  2. Northwest Snipe (new order)
This second order was received in November 2009. Aside from the addition of a cargo emergency shutdown system, this order is identical in all respects to the first order. The main reasons why Yokogawa received this second order were its highly competent engineering capabilities, reliable products, and successful and on-time completion of the first project.

Yokogawa boasts a 22% market share with LNG liquefaction plant control systems and a 53% share with LNG receiving terminals. This latest order brings our LNG carrier total to 44.

Although growth of the worldwide control system market has been slowing down due to the current economic recession, prospects are bright in the Australian LNG market and many projects are underway in that country. Encouraged by this new order, Yokogawa will make all possible efforts to expand its global LNG business.
